      • Adaptive Designs

Adaptive designs play an increasingly important role in clinical drug development.Such designs use accumulating data of an ongoing trial to guide how to modify design aspects without undermining the validity and integrity of the trial. Such designs have the potential to increase the efficiency of the clinical study while enhancing the overall probability of success of a compound via a better optimization of the dose, endpoint or the patient population that is most likely to benefit. This workshop will lay out the key statistical and operational principles related to the use of adaptive designs and describe the key types of adaptations that commonly used in the biopharmaceutical industry. Examples of the application of adaptive designs in the early exploratory and late stage confirmatory stage will be provided.

Data Sciences paradigm includes IT/Programming/Visualization skills, Mathematics and Statistics skills and Subject Matter expertise. The annual conference of IASCT this year will focus on this paradigm and how it is changing the landscape of drug development. Important areas in which this paradigm is proving to be useful are clinical trial operations, visualization of complex clinical data, signal detection in pre-clinical and clinical settings, individual patient data analytics, predictive modeling, post-approval market analytics and comparative effectiveness research, among many others. The conference will aim to bring together experts who are driving this paradigm. The conference will benefit all those involved in drug development including clinical scientists, programmers and data managers, site monitors and clinical trial managers, medical writers and data analysts.

      • Workshop on Applications of Bayesian Statistics in Clinical Trials and Biology

This workshop will introduce participants to the Bayesian philosophy of statistical inference. The key ingredients of the Bayesian approach, i.e. quantifying uncertainty about states of nature, information provided by the data and synthesizing the two to obtain information about unknown parameters given the data will be described. Applications of the Bayesian methodology to early and late-phase clinical development will be discussed using examples, to show how the flexibility of the Bayesian method can allow for designing clinical trials with desirable properties, and making meaningful inferences based on current and past studies.
